Up for Sale!

Greetings everybody! I have this thing where I forget. I forgot about having this blog! Lord help me!

Anyhows, I have some exciting news to report! My art has really taken off! There was a call for art for a new Boutique opening up here in my little town. I have been so excited! My youngest daughter took to framing my art for me. Let me tell you right here that picture frames are hard to come by in bulk! I found some at my local Dollar General Store and pretty much bought them out. Then I had to travel to the next town east and bought the only box they had in the size I needed. Whew! And now I need MORE frames that size! Not easy to find!

So. As a result of framing and then my daughter photographing and posting to social media I gained more sales and another shop wanting my work! How exciting! I’ve met with both shop owners and left art at the Boutique. Shop number 2, a gifts and floral shop, has picked out works for her shop. Alas, if I only had frames…..I have to wait for my monthly payday on the 3rd of March. Living on a fixed income is a beast.

Never fear. I’m leaving ya’ll with the popular drawing that I’ve had to “copy”. I actually had to draw completely new pix. That way each customer has an original. 😁

Please let me know what ya’ll think. I love the feedback.

Remember to enjoy life. We only have this one.

Sharing Life and Pix of Happy Things

Greetings all on this fine Sabbath day in my part of the world!

It has been quite a while since I’ve posted. Not intentionally I assure you. Indeed, a few months back I started a post and became so frustrated with the hole of “Where’d the pix go?” that I ended up forfeiting that post altogether. I suppose there are times that just beg not to be shared. Although I couldn’t understand why keeping winter pix from ya’ll would be something to “hide”.

Today I have decided to try sharing again. I am pretty sure I know where all my pix are at that I want to share today. I love nature and enjoy my walks with my dog, Daisy. I am always finding something to take pix of, whether a flower, a tree, a bug…..just all kinds of stuff. This summer, however, has proven to be not as kind in sharing it’s wealth of beauty with me in my surroundings. What I once found as sanctuary, the lake up the road, has been bought and the people refuse me to walk there. >sigh<

There has been much more industrial business that has come to occupy the previously empty pole buildings up the road from me as well. Many heavy equipment trucks, tractors, and strange creatures of the mechanical sort tend to fly down our road. Not as safe for me or my dog when it comes to our walks. No sidewalks here. I’ve been told the road work people will be widening our road sometime in the future. That in itself will be a bit of a major undertaking as the storm sewers could quite possibly need moved. You see, I live in an area that was once the outskirts of town. It has been industrialized. UGH!

I’m sorry. Perhaps some of you are wondering about me and my health? I have been sick since last March with hives. BAD hives. Many doctors, tests, hospitals, and still no cause as to why I have them. They get in my mouth, on my lips, eyes, ears, between fingers and toes, and everywhere else imaginable. Itch so bad at times that I could filet myself if it would help. Swelling in my face happens, and yes, my lips and mouth too, that can be numbing. Horrible it is. And I live with it still. WAY too much Prednisone for this gal as my previous breast cancer fed on hormones. It’s scary and does absolutely nothing for my mental health.

Mosey Cottage has come to a screeching halt. I don’t know at this point if I ever will get to live there. So many, many things have happened with family in regards to repairs and occupancy. More than what I am comfortable sharing here with the world. It has become another Hole in my life.

Alrighty. Enough of the downtrodden. Let’s lighten up a bit, shall we? Here are various photos I’ve taken, with camera and phone, of my surroundings this past year.

~ ENJOY!

Hens or Chicks? These NEVER Cluck (but they sure can multiply!)

Finally found a bit of time to help my neighbor with her over-abundance of hens and chicks she planted a couple years ago. She’s been going through a rough patch and my ministry of help has been readily welcomed. I’m glad to help howsoever I can. She just had bladder cancer surgery on Monday. By the time I finished replanting the exterior circle of her succulents at my house and went back out with my dog she had received a call that her sister had just passed away from leukemia. Not been a great day for her.

This is what I had left over after filling my planter at home:

still more growing in the pot!

still more growing in the pot!

Here’s what I planted in my own container:

My pot runneth over.

My pot runneth over.

It’s rather full isn’t it? I have to leave enough room for them to settle a bit. They were getting all scraggly in her outdoors man-made planter area. But what to do with the leftovers in that white bucket? It’s a half gallon food service bucket by the way. Come in handy for a great many things! Just one of my wonderful finds at the recycle/dump center. Yay! I’m always finding great stuff there!

Broken cups still have a great use for planters!

Broken cups still have a great use for planters!

This broken cup I couldn’t pass up out of a dumpster recently. There had been a set of four. One was chipped on the rim and this one had a half side broken. Perfect for little planters! I decided to add the broken off pieces to the bottom for drainage. And since I couldn’t readily get to my usual handful of rocks from my collection I decided to use a couple of my empty medicine bottle lids. Those things like never break down in a landfill anyways! Then I added a pretty cupcake liner since a coffee filter is obviously too big and I didn’t want to waste a good filter for my coffee. (wink, wink). I suppose a person could also use a knitting needle, a crochet hook, a pencil, an ink pen, a drinking straw, a pair of inexpensive scissors (NOT children’s!), a specific length of coat hanger wire from a shop that uses a uniform service ie a service station. Most of those places are throwing away those coat hangers anyhow. I find them in the dumpsters all the time. I’m sure you can come up with even more ideas for poking stem holes than what I’ve been able to list here.

shove the cupcake liner in really good around the lids, rocks, marble....whatever you decide to use for drainage.

I then proceed to add the pitiful leftovers of my potting soil from last year. I probably should have long since thrown that out but I do so tend to hoard forever what I think I will need someday. Just so happens I’ve needed this a couple of times now! And since the cup is broken on one side I decided to bank the dirt to one side for appearance.

Bank the dirt to one side. I should have wetted it all down first!

Bank the dirt to one side. I should have wetted it all down first!

After wetting it down I have to admit I lost a bit of the dirt. Not enough to make a difference. It would have been best if I had worked with wet dirt to begin with. Then I grabbed one of my long handled paint brushes laying close by to help poke holes for the long stems/roots of my hens and chicks. You can also use a chopstick, a stick from the yard, a knife handle (dull knife please!) or the handle from a plastic fork, knife, spoon, or that odd spork in the back of the junk drawer.   (Grin!)

best rule of thumb is to use what I have on hand...thus the paintbrush to poke stem holes!

I started by adding the straggling smaller chicks to the lower edge and letting them hang over a bit. I had to pack them in tighter. Then I started adding some bigger hens with more pronounced roots. Had to get a bit creative and shove the holes at an angle to get the stems to go in the direction that was correct for the tilt of the head. Then I filled in with a couple of medium sizes and a larger one at the back.

How's this for a cup of hangover?

How’s this for a cup of hangover?

I know all of the plants will settle a bit after sitting for a while. That’s what is so nice about succulents. They are very forgiving! This little cup full of loving went to live with my oldest Daughter at Mosey Cottage. But look at what I STILL have yet to plant!

Still have to plant with another bucketful to come!

Still have to plant with another bucketful to come!

I am definitely going to need a bigger planter! I wonder if I can make a living wreath for my door with these? Hmmmm……how to keep it damp? I live in an interior apartment building. Spritz it daily? Soak it once a week? Any ideas?

Until next time I assure you I’m still living life….only my “whole” seems to be getting a wee bit tight now days!

Sharing for Charity. It’s a “Feel Good” thing.

202

Howdy ya’ll!

I’ve been struggling with life in this “hole”. Today, however, I want to share a ray of goodness. Not something that is transferred from me to you but something that you can transfer to another. The word for it is CHARITY. So, did you cringe? Were you expecting the offering plate shoved in your face? Never fear. I’m not doing that here. No hands held out asking for alms. No junk mail stuffing out the more important things (like the heating bill?).

At the start of the year somebody on another blog had asked about a word to set the pace for my year. The word that came to my mind, immediately I might add, was “SHARE”. I am supposed to share more this year. And yet I’ve been failing to share here. My deepest apologies. Forgive me please?

Now don’t misunderstand me. I HAVE been sharing. Spring is the time of year that I get loaded with requests from various charities for handmade items. And I have been gracious to accept their requests and donate. But that isn’t really “charity”. Yes, it is giving of my abilities and resources but I was ASKED to comply. Charity, true Christian charity, comes from within, from that “whole” in your heart, because you WANT to do so.

With that thought in mind I wish to share this blog with all of you. I have been checked in myself once again to Share. I need to learn that sharing when depression sets in is a form of healing.

I am an avid crocheter. Even when my hands hurt and my fingers go numb I still can be found with crochet work close by. So for all my crochet and kitting friends I wish to share.

I found this list of 10 charities to be the broadest and most appealing. My own granddaughter is a recipient of a Linus blanket! Please take a look and see if there’s anything that stirs your “whole”. Do it for yourself. I have done some. I need to do more. The words echo in my mind to “do what I can”. So with that I share the following blog.

Timeless Encouragement

cast your bread

Here we are between holidays and I am finding myself cleaning out my emails. Sadly there are a great many pages of unread emails from two years ago! One such email I want to share with you. I find the words of this blogger to be as fresh for me as if she had written them yesterday. There can always be a renewal, a regeneration, if you will, of reading words with a fresh approach. Much like re-reading a well loved book. You always enjoy it and every time you turn a page you find a renewing of the words.

The words of this blogger left me with a realization for my life. I feel so much of the time that I have so very little to share. But when I share with others then we are both enriched and have more than when we started. In compliance with the words of that email I do believe my word for this new year to come is “SHARE”. I must do more sharing in 2015. Much more sharing than I ever have. And that sharing begins here.

Enjoy…..

Christmas 2014

Merry Christmas to all who come across my little blog and blessings abundant I pray for you!

10 ft tree in a 12 ft ceiling

10 ft tree in a 12 ft ceiling

I was lamenting earlier this evening, the eve of the Eve, about the fact that to many I am just an old lady. Lamenting because I have been feeling the loneliness of the elderly. Thus far this year I have not been to a single party. I have not yet tasted any of the Seasonal foods and sweets except for a small bit of store bought fruitcake. Yeah, I’m one of those odd people that LIKES fruitcake. I haven’t had occasion to dress in festive clothing. I could dress up here at home but my dog really doesn’t care and I really don’t want to clean the dog hair off the good stuff. I’ve wrapped a handful of gifts and bagged the rest. Made loads of items that I just didn’t have the energy or desire to wrap. Haven’t decorated. All the bagged gifts are hanging out of my bedroom closet. And to top everything off I’ve been under the weather. >sigh<

In my melancholy I’ve had much opportunity to watch the world hustle and bustle along, all in a frenzy, over-spending and over-eating and some even over-drinking. I watch at how the “Christmas” shows on TV are now considered “holiday” and how so many of them don’t point to the real cause of Christmas. Save Charlie Brown. But he was tucked away on odd nights when most people wouldn’t watch.

I watch. And then I began to marvel. What would the world have done if Jesus had not been born at that time, or even at all for that matter? I wonder what concoction or abhorition would have been devised to occupy people’s minds. Christmas is a HOLY day. It is celebrated world wide, warm and cold weather, regardless of belief.

I shan’t get “preachy”. Don’t you just despise “preachy” people? I will just sit back and watch the world go by. Later in the morning, for it is Christmas day now, I will load up the car with all the bags and gifts and begin my trek about two counties delivering presents to friends and family and to many who can’t get out. I come in my red car. Can’t say I will be wearing a red suit but I will dress up for the occasion. Santa comes in all forms don’t you know.

Do you have an elderly friend or neighbor? Why not consider a brief visit with a plate of cookies or even a plate of your leftovers? (Many times I’ve been THRILLED to get my daughter’s leftovers….).  Share your festive spirit with others and don’t forget to wish them a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Let’s Write!

Many years ago I had a pen pal.  Since my youth I have enjoyed writing letters and sending cards. But a few years ago I went through such a dark time in my life that I wasn’t even getting junk mail! It was a horrific feeling, to not even be recognized as an “occupant”. With this said I invite you to read the following forwarded post and at least consider mailing out those Christmas cards. It doesn’t matter if the recipient gets it “on time”. It matters that somebody thought enough to write.

A Wonderful Love Story

I haven’t been on here for quite a while. I know. Many things have happened.

In order to get myself hopefully back on track I would like to share this with you.

It’s beautiful. And right now this is almost how I feel. Only the first part. My end of the story hasn’t arrived yet.

Enjoy!

Freebies!

Been feeling a bit melancholy this past few days. Another friend died. Today my daughter and I visited a couple of cemeteries. It was hard but we trudged through it. Once back home my spirits were lifted. I finally got to open the package I received in the mail.

Image

I won this through another blog site that I LOVE. She makes all kinds of recycle items. I’m thrilled to get some of her “leftovers” 🙂

Also today I was surprised with another big box of “leftovers”. I live in an apartment building and I’m always the one to dumpster dive. Didn’t have to this time! The property manager people actually boxed up a lot of crafting supplies with me in mind! YAY!!! They said another resident had moved and left a bunch of these things behind.

Image

I believe the entire loom kit is here, instructions too! And all the yarn!!  🙂  Some of this is really expensive! At least it is to my pockets. I am thrilled!

Funny how such a melancholy day turned out to have a bright side. I wholly believe that the loved ones we visited in the cemetery today are smiling on me now.
